Peirson Ross and his untamable flock of musicians known as The Wilderness are heading to the one and only Black Sheep Inn. Following recent appearances in Europe, NYC and Toronto’s NXNE Conference, Peirson has recently taken up residency at TO’s Drake Hotel where his modern day spirituals feed the weary weekly. The strong response to his latest album - a boy caught on words – has led to Peirson’s songs being included in several film and television soundtracks. Known for his stark and down-home delivery, come witness as he and the band gather around their table to deliver what CBC radio has called “an unforgettable live music experience”.

Mike O'Brien has had a busy year. His debut album was released in the spring of 2007 following a successful cross Canada tour. Recorded in Montreal and Wakefield, QC, with a stellar cast of backing musicians, including Joe Grass and Mike Evin, the album is testament to Mike's skills not only as an accomplished country blues guitarist, a jaw-dropping singer with a honey-rich tone, but also as a thoughtful, skilled songwriter. The album was voted #1 local album of 2007 by the Montreal Hour. Along with his solo work, Mike also lends his skills to a number of Montreal bands. He recently recorded an album with Orillia Opry (Ships at Night Records), and is currently working on a new album with Ideal Lovers. WakeFest is glad to welcome him as he tours Eastern Canada.

Neil McDaniel
Neil McDaniel is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, originally from Cape Breton Island, NS. His sound is anchored in folk and roots music betraying a healthy dose of country and blues influences. Over the past decade, Neil has been performing with a number of diverse musical projects throughout the country and he has most recently come to rest in the Ottawa region. Neil has just recently released his first solo CD, 10 Years Too Late, which was recorded in Chelsea, Quebec. Hopefully it will be the first of many.

Rebecca Ramone
Rebecca Ramone tore up the Western Canadian live music scene for almost a decade. Nowadays, her powerful blues and soul tinged voice rings out from Toronto. Finding her mom’s old acoustic guitar at age thirteen, she endured months of blood blisters and tendonitis due to poor technique and a badly set up instrument. Rebecca finally got her way (as she usually does) and acquired a beautiful classical guitar on which she learned to write songs ripping-off Pearl Jam and Sheryl Crowe. Playing everywhere from smoky underground bars before she could drink to Calgary’s Saddledome last year as part of Jessica Beach's band, Rebecca was born to perform.

BRAGGING RIGHTS: A Benefit Tribute To Billy Bragg

This WakeFest finale will pay tribute to the words, music and influence of Mr. Billy Bragg. Special guest musicians will be performing Billy’s songs as well as original music that shares in Billy’s vision of justice, equal rights and, yes, love. Musical guests confirmed so far include Phil Jenkins, Lee Bowie, Guy Major, Peirson Ross, Rebecca Ramone, Mike Dubue, Shane Ward, Bruce Cawdron and Brian Sanderson. More are jumping on the Braggwagon everyday! Backing them all up will be ever-persistent Victims Of Geography on bass, guitars, horns, drums and who knows what else.

In the spirit of Billy Bragg’s use of music to raise awareness of pressing social justice issues, this event is a fundraiser for the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (www.cctv.org).
